This project was the subject of a two-stage architectural competition for Urban Splash.

Our approach was primarily conditioned by the wish to generate a building form which would meet the specific needs of the competition site but which, with further development, could lead to a more general application for other urban sites. The notion of a plan configuration with a relatively small 'footprint' seemed to be an essential requirement if these general and specific requirements were to be satisfied.

In addition, the provision of a civilised access system was given a high priority in the search for an appropriate form. The arrangement contains three apartments per floor organised around a linear circulation system. This 'fragmentary' configuration allows for easier insertion into the urban fabric whilst offering the possibility of good orientation for the apartments and an agreeable shared circulation system.

The two-storey terraces with 'floating' canopies, which are 'contained' by the structure and take the form of 'outdoor rooms', distinguish the penthouses.
